The Village of Egg Harbor Presents
2009 SUNSET CONCERT SERIES
PEG EGAN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER
Richie Havens is gifted with one of the most recognizable voices in popular music. His fiery, poignant, soulful singing style has remained unique and ageless since his historic appearance at Woodstock in 1969. For four decades, Havens has used his music to convey passionate messages of brotherhood and personal freedom. And, joining Richie Havens:
Blues man Harry Manx has been called an "essential link" between the music of East and West, creating musical short stories that wed the tradition of the Blues with the depth of classical Indian ragas. He has created a unique sound that is hard to forget and deliciously addictive to listen to.
A great mix of blues, folk, jazz, bluegrass, alternative, and world music. You won't want to miss this great concert! Note the earlier start time!
With all the makings of an American music icon, Tab Benoit has become one of the premiere roots stylists of the century. Tab has paid his dues as a road troubadour, playing 250 nights a year performing at venues across North America, honing his guitar chops and becoming part of Louisiana folklore and legend.
Willy Porter's music demonstrates admirably that the technical excellence of his guitar-playing will never overwhelm the essence of the song itself. In perfect symbiosis, the two disciplines of performance and songwriting combine together to create the unique work for which he is admired by professional peers and audiences alike.
Patty is a rare combination of talents. Over her 10 CD history, she has honed a reputation as a "musician's musician", working with some of the brightest talents in American music. Long a favorite with critics, Patty is that unique level of artistic sophistication - one that her audiences have come to appreciate and her new fans will love.
This Lansing, Michigan quartet brilliantly updates a resurging American musical genre. These guys are real showmen of old-time country swing.
The members of the Lawrence Jazz Trio improvise and interact upon an eclectic repertoire of jazz, classical, folk, and ethnic music. Each artist brings a broadly based conservatory education, an extensive jazz background, and unique world music experiences to this creative music collective. Lee Tomboulian (piano), Mark Urness (bass), and Ryan Korb (drums), are joined by renowned L.A. saxophonist Kim Richmond for an exciting evening of modern mainstream acoustic jazz.
Specializing in the style of Django Reinhardt, The Wail is made of mandolin, guitar, bass, and killer female vocals with snare percussion. The Wail consistently receives an excellent response from audience members, and reengagements from presenters. The band has toured throughout the United States and Europe over the past 17 years.
Karen Savoca's live performances are uplifting and hypnotic, and she and partner Pete Heitzman put some funk in the folk. At the Vancouver Folk Festival '99, as the Sunday sun was setting, for the first time in 22 years, 10 thousand people inexplicably removed their shoes and waved them over their heads.
The Santa Cruz River Band was formed in the latter part of the 1980's in Tucson, Arizona by musician Teodoro "Ted" Ramirez. Ted started the band to help celebrate and present an authentic view of the Southwest. He sought to make the Santa Cruz River Band a cultural bridge that would span the gaps using authentic music, poetry, oral history, stories and legends from the American Southwest.
Michael J. Ronstadt is a member of a prestigious Southwestern musical family that most notably includes his sister Linda Ronstadt. Michael has over the years performed in a variety of Ronstadt family bands. Currently, Ted Ramirez and Michael J. Ronstadt form the core of the Santa Cruz River Band. Together they tour year-round advancing the message of the Santa Cruz River Band offering an authentic representation of Southwestern music and culture, presenting their stories in a positive way to audiences of all ages.
Performance originally scheduled 10-17-2009 has been POSTPONED due to weather.
